Goodwood Festival of Speed - 11/12/13 July 2008
Southdowns Workshop is Open to Visitors to Local Sporting Event
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, held near the old Southdowns Motorcaravans site in Chichester, West Sussex is one of the world's biggest and most diverse celebrations of the history of motorsport. The festival is an unrivalled social and sporting occasion in the motor racing calendar.Experience the action and excitement of the greatest competition cars, star drivers and motorsport legends. The Goodwood Festival of Speed highlights include: the infamous Hillclimb competition, Star cars, Racing motorcycles, Cartier 'Style et Luxe', Supercars and the Junior Festival of Speed.
The Hillclimb competition is the principal attraction of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The competition takes place throughout the Festival weekend on a 1.16-mile course on parkland roads in the grounds of Goodwood House.
Amongst the races is a timed category including highlights such as: early cars, single seaters, sports-racing cars, fastest road-racer, saloon-based cars, motorcycles.
In 1936 the 9th Duke of Richmond held a private hillclimb through Goodwood Park, bringing motor racing to Goodwood for the first time.
The Goodwood Motor Circuit was opened in 1948 by the Duke, whose early events inspired his grandson (the present Earl of March) to bring motor sport back to Goodwood in Chichester with the first Festival of Speed, in 1993.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed has seen famous drivers and riders such as Nigel Mansell, Sir Stirling Moss, Jenson Button, Johnny Herbert, Juan Pablo Montoya, Carl Fogarty, Giacomo Agostini, Ralf Schumacher, Jean Alesi, Jacky Ickx, Colin McRae, Petter Solberg, Hannu Mikkola and Alan Jones to name just a few.
The event is always a very popular annual trip for many of our Concorde customers.
We therefore recommend that if you are intending to combine a trip to
the Festival of Speed with a visit to the
Southdowns
Workshop, you should book early. Our specialist
Concorde
Motorhome Technician, Uwe Klos always puts in extra hours during the week
before and after the Festival but he does like to find some time to visit the
event himself.
