Financial Controller
Jeanette is a fairly recent addition to the Southdowns’ team, having joined in February 2008. So after three weeks, how does she feel about her new job?Q What attracted you to work for Southdowns?
A I have worked in financial side of the motor trade for about 20 years, so I was keen to stay in a business I know well but was looking for a new challenge. I used to work with Southdowns’ consultant accountant and knew of MD Michael Ayling through him. I also live locally and thought the financial controller role might suit me as I like working on my own initiative.
Q What are your key responsibilities?
A I have sole responsibility for the day-to-day financial aspects of the
company. That involves monitoring and reporting cash flow, ensuring invoices are
produced and paid on time and that staff and suppliers are paid.
Q What is the best thing about working for the company
A As this is a more hands-on role than my previous job, I am still finding my
feet. So far, I like the family atmosphere and the fact that everyone seems to
work well together as a team.
Q Does working with motorhomes hold an appeal for you?
A We had a caravan when our children were small but I have never spent any time
in a motorhome. I wouldn’t mind borrowing one but the product we sell wasn’t the
reason I was interested in the job - the technical side of motor trade finance
is the same wherever you work.
Q If you could take a motorhome anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A My daughter lives in America, so I have travelled a lot in the USA and I would
like to take a motorhome down Route 66. I would also love to go back to the
former Yugoslavia, which is a really beautiful part of the world, or go to China
where I have a friend I have never yet managed to visit - how many weeks holiday
do we get at Southdowns?
Q Finally, what is your personal philosophy?
A I am a strong believer in treating others as you would like to be treated -
we’re all here to make a living and everyone has an equally important job to do.
Jeanette lives in Bedhampton and enjoys spending her spare time with her three - soon to be four - grandchildren..
