Jim Reed

Service Advisor

Jim was interviewed in Spring 2019

How did you find yourself working for Southdowns Motorhome Centre?

I was pretty unhappy in my previous job as an Autocentre Manager and it was time for a change, I saw a job advertised for a Service Advisor, which was one of the roles in my previous job, so I thought I would apply. In all honesty, I thought that it was a normal vehicle service advisor role, not the leisure side of motorhomes but it sounded like a new challenge! I’m loving the role and every day is different which brings new challenges which I love.

What does your job as a Service Advisor involve?

The main thing is to help customers with the service of their vehicle and any issues with their motorhome, this starts with the booking in process. Getting correct details and making sure any parts needed are here ready for the job and keeping customers updated with the progress of their vehicle.

What is the best thing about working for Southdowns Motorhome Centre?

I like the “family” atmosphere, working at Southdowns everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. I have been working for very large national companies for a few years now and I got a little bit fed up of being “just a number”. This is the first job in over 10 years where I don’t work Saturdays or Bank Holidays, so it’s nice to have a bit more family time as I have a son who is 6 now.

Do you have a personal interest in motorhomes?

I have not been away in a motorhome, but hopefully, that will change soon as I’ve heard we can borrow a demonstration motorhome to use! I have been camping a few times with my girlfriend and my son, mainly around Dorset but we normally go on holidays so we can keep my son entertained.

If you could take a motorhome anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to do a road trip across America. I have family in Florida and Pittsburgh so it would be lovely to see them. It would need to be a large motorhome, maybe something like one of the big Concordes we sell so I could fit a Harley Davison Bike in the garage so I could get out and hit the open road!!
