Southdowns Sales Specialist Rod Freeman

Rod Freeman

Sales Specialist

Rod left the car trade to join Southdowns in August 2009

Q How did you find yourself working for Southdowns?
A Having spent many years working in the motor trade, first as a valetter, with my own company for a while, then as a driver and more recently as a salesman, I was looking for a change. Southdowns has a good reputation, a relaxed approach and has earned a name for being decent people to deal with. It sounded like a good place to work. It is a very difficult environment in car sales at the moment and I wanted a different lifestyle

Q What does your job involve?
A I meet and greet customers, show them around the motorhomes and spend time answering questions and talking them through the different vehicles. I also follow up leads and try to generate new business. I am using my old contacts from my last job and encouraging my old customers to come and take a look at what we have on offer. I have always been interested in caravans and we have a motorhome in the family – it is much easier to sell something if you have a genuine interest in your product and a motorhome is something that I would like to own myself.

Q What is the best thing about working for the company
A There is a lot to learn but so far I’m really enjoying Southdowns. I’m happy to be working in a good environment where I’m able to spend time building good relationships with customers. After working in the car trade where you are always under pressure to make a quick sale, it is refreshing to be able to do the legwork, get results and feel appreciated.

Q If you could take a motorhome anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A I love Italy and I love to cook – I can see myself at Lake Garda in a motorhome listening to jazz and cooking pasta.

Q What is your personal philosophy?
A If you treat people as you would like to be treated, you get that goodwill back.

Rod lives in Portsmouth with his wife Barbara and grown up children.
